The workshop day begins with a welcome and brief introductions from CAW representatives, from the host and partner organizations, and about the collections that will be processed throughout the day. The usual order of introductions is outlined below:

  • CAW: a CAW representative welcomes the group, introducing the concept of CAW and the partner organizations.
  • Partner Organization(s): Partner organizations (including the host site organization) participate in the workshop providing location and/or collection materials for processing. Each organization will provide history and background of their organization and the collections that they have provided for processing.
  • Host organization provides logistical information specific to the workshop location, like location of bathrooms and house rules.
  • Collections: CAW and partner organizations go into more detail about the types of collection materials that will be processed throughout the day, like types of formats and content.
  • Ice breaker (optional): Depending on the space and number of attendees, a fun ice breaker exercise helps people get to know each other before they get to work.
