Many Native communities hold invaluable audiovisual recordings that face urgent preservation risks. This popular hands-on workshop brings archivists and volunteers together to identify formats, assess preservation risks, and inventory recordings while contributing to the care of the Wanapum Heritage Center collection. Participants gain practical, real-time training in handling and describing audiovisual materials while helping the Wanapum community take critical steps toward preserving its cultural heritage.
The Wanapum Heritage Center Repository cares for and manages ethnographic, archaeological, historical, and archival collections that represent the culture and history of the Wanapum and that of Grant County. Currently, the repository is undergoing an extensive baseline inventory of the entire collection. During the inventory process and management of the collection, all generated data is recorded in a comprehensive database. The database compiles the information regarding artifacts such as the artifact provenance, collection activities, and the knowledge of the Wanapum elders
