This presentation is an introduction to inspecting media and creating an inventory. It covers identification of magnetic media formats and their risk factors. A detailed inventory of a thoroughly inspected audiovisual collection is a key component in preservation planning. It can help you identify the greatest physical risks in your collection, some of the most valuable content, and allows you to begin to prioritize assets in your collection for digitization.
