About La Lotería Audiovisual

Download and play La Lotería Audiovisual! This version of the classic Mexican game contains 54 essential audiovisual archiving terms accompanied by original illustrations by Mexican-born filmmaker and artist, Azucena Losana. It can be used as a game, an archival teaching tool, a language teaching tool, or all three.

This is the first in a series of Lotería games in different languages which will follow. Would you like to translate the game into your language? Is there a language you would like to see represented in a forthcoming version? Drop us a line!

This project was funded by AMIA’s Borderland Program, and is a result of a partnership between CAW and LEC (Laboratorio Experimental de Cine) in Mexico City.

How to Play

A series of 9 different 4×4 arrays/matrices comprise each of the game-playing tablas. Each of these different tablas contains a varying selection of 16 of the 54 pictograms.

During regular game-play a central “caller” selects a pictogram at random, and verbally describes the selected individual pictogram (as opposed to “Bingo,” wherein a number is simply called out). Example (for “El Nopal”): “This is a prickly plant in its natural habitat, but a divine tasting topping for your tacos once its spines are removed.” Players check their tablas to see if theirs contains the pictogram described; if so, they place a marker on the called pictogram.
