Local community members are invited to participate in a special edition of the Community Archiving Workshop (CAW), a day-long workshop that centers community building and the preservation of audiovisual collections.
The workshop is presented by the CAW Collective, an organization of trained archivists who facilitate audiovisual preservation in community-held collections, build peer-to-peer learning as a foundation for long-term preservation, and develop free resources to scale and share widely.
As a registered participant, you’ll learn about audiovisual formats and their risk factors, and work alongside other community volunteers and Society of American Archivists meeting attendees to inspect, label, and inventory unprocessed A/V collections from two local nonprofits: The Guardians Institute and CubaNOLA. No prior audiovisual or archiving experience is required.
Catered coffee, snacks, and lunch will be served.
Free to participate for community members but advance registration is required by July 27.
For questions about the New Orleans workshop, email Melissa A. Weber mweber3@tulane.edu or Christine Garaudy christinegaraudy@gmail.com.
